Capital investments are the weakest point of this government for this year. At least, this is what the World Bank concluded in the latest report on the economic development of Kosovo.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has spoken about historic economic growth.
“A year and a half of growth and anti-corruption. We have brought the public finance system back on track by reducing public debt. We have provided over 750 supports to citizens and businesses. We have historical economic growth in our country. In 2021, customs revenues have increased by 30.8 percent. We have hundreds of millions of euros in debt repayment. We have fought uncompromisingly against informal work and smuggling. TAK has prevented damage to the budget for over 12 million euros”, he declared at the meeting.
However, the World Bank in the last report for Europe has concluded that the economic growth in Kosovo is expected to slow down to 3.1 percent due to the lack of capital investments and private consumption.
In the World Bank report, the increase in the cost of importing energy was highlighted as the main challenge to the economy.
The Kurti government has been criticized for a lack of capital investments, which in the six months of this year, has 39 percent fewer capital expenditures compared to last year.
In the report of this bank, the Kurti Government’s financial assistance for social schemes was assessed as inflexible, according to which it offers limited protection from those vulnerable to inflation.
